Torquay Sailing Club
2nd annual Torquay Brass Monkey regatta
Details
Event information
After a ragingly successful inaugural Brass Monkey, Torquay Sailing Club is throwing down the challenge again this winter with the second annual Torquay Brass Monkey Regatta, hitting the Surf Coast on 26-27 June 2027. This is proper winter sailing: crisp air, rolling swell, and a test of who’s keen enough to rig up when most are on the couch. Racing kicks off Saturday afternoon and continues for a Sunday morning session, with a mix of formats to keep things interesting: one day a longer distance race along our iconic coastline, the other tight, fast-paced short course racing right off the club. It’s open to all off-the-beach catamarans, plus dinghies with a yardstick under 99, so if you’ve got the boat and the grit, you’re in.
This regatta is all about good vibes, tough sailing, and a bit of fun off the water too. Entry is deliberately low-key: just $20 for single-handers and $30 for double-handers under 21 years old, and $40/$60 for single/double over 21, because we want as many boats on the start line as possible. Warm up afterwards with hot choccies by the fire pit, then join the fleet for a relaxed dinner at the bowlo (pay your own way). Whether you’re chasing bragging rights or prizes, or just keen to prove you’ve got what it takes to be a true “Brass Monkey,” this is your chance to embrace winter sailing on the Surf Coast.
